Sergeant McCabe claims some members of the Garda force have continued to wrongly cancel points which are centralised at the Penalty Points Processing office in Thurles.
He's now been seconded to the Garda Professional Standards Unit – and will begin on the inquiries tomorrow.
Minister Paschal Donohoe says the force's management are sending out the right signal by involving Sergeant McCabe – but their work must be transparent.
