GAA calls on unions to avoid rail travel disruptions on final days

National Bus and Rail Union and SIPTU workers at the company have announced four days of stoppage in the coming weeks, beginning with a 48-hours stoppage on August 24th – the day of the football semi-final.

Irish Rail says the pay cuts at the centre of the dispute must go ahead and it cannot guarantee any of its services will run on the dates.

Alan Milton is the Head of Media Relations at the GAA. He is calling for the unions to avoid disruption on All Ireland Final days.

“There's not a whole lot we can do, it's outside our remit – but I would hope that people would see sense, perhaps after the first semi-final, that some of the people and the personalities involved would be able to reconvene and examine whether or not a solution is available before the finals come into focus” he said.

“That really is a worrying situation, given the numbers that would travel for finals in Dublin in September” he added.
