French presidential candidate’s team victim of hacking attack

French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron’s campaign team says it’s been the victim of a coordinated hacking attack.

It claims authentic internal documents are now being mixed with fake ones on social media as part of attempts to sow “doubt and misinformation”.

Voters decide between Mr Macron and Marine Le Pen when they go to the polls on tomorrow.

8,000 French people in Ireland will vote at the French Embassy.

The choice for France is between a centrist former banker and economy minister that vows to bring Europe closer, or a far-right euro-sceptic on an anti-immigration platform that will try to take France out of the EU.

Polls have widened since last Wednesday’s debate in which Marine Le Pen largely under-performed on important economic questions and where her demeanor was said to have been less than presidential. She is likely to take around 38 per cent to Macron’s 62.

Voting ends at 7pm Irish time and an exit poll will be released as soon as all ballots are closed.
