Efforts to save Clonmel Borough Council from abolition.

Oireachtas members are to be lobbied to save Clonmel Borough Council.

The Local Authority is one of many which will be abolished under new Local Government reform plans announced by Minister Phil Hogan.

It had been thought that Clonmel Borough Council would be spared, given the population it serves, but this is not the case – Councillor Siobhán Ambrose points out that the Borough Council is over 300 years older than both the Dail and the Seanad.

At a special meeting of the Council this week, members agreed to immediately seek a meeting with local Oireachtas members, to garner support to spare the Borough Council from abolition.
