It had been thought that Clonmel Borough Council would be spared, given the population it serves, but this is not the case – Councillor Siobhán Ambrose points out that the Borough Council is over 300 years older than both the Dail and the Seanad.

At a special meeting of the Council this week, members agreed to immediately seek a meeting with local Oireachtas members, to garner support to spare the Borough Council from abolition.
