Eddie O’Meara elected to second term as Cathaoirleach in Carrick on Suir

Councillor O'Meara is the only Cathaoirleach in the county to be returned for a second successive term.

He said it’s a great honour for him and that he’s looking forward to achieving a lot more this year as much of his first term was spent on a bedding in process among councillors and officials.

The toughest part for public representatives he feels was the changes in directorships within the county council – he feels overall the merged council has worked well.

His main objectives going forward are the issue of housing in Carrick on Suir where the waiting lists are growing and also Phase 2 of rehabilitation works at Ballylynch.

Councillor O’Meara says a programme has to be agreed for village renewal and county and tertiary roads which he feels badly need a cash injection.

However he admits the issue of funding will always be an issue.

The Mullinahone based Councillor is also looking forward to the centenary celebrations for the 1916 rising.
