Motorists driving cars without a valid NCT face three points every time they're stopped at a checkpoint, as well as on the spot fines.
The Sunday Independent reports that there's a three week backlog at many of the 47 NCT locations, with some centres not accepting bookings until the end of January and into February 2015.
