The 19-year-old was arrested in Cairo two years ago and has had his trial date delayed a number of times.
There have been calls for the Irish government to put more pressure on Egypt to release the teenager.
However Chairman of the Foreign Foreign Affairs Committee Pat Breen, who's travelling to Cairo today, says that a diplomatic solution is the best way forward.
