Deadline day for objections to proposed incinerator at Cork Harbour

Waste management company Indevar, has proposed a waste-to-energy facility in the harbour, which will provide electricity to the national grid.

The Cork Harbour Alliance for Safe Environment has objected to the use of the Ringaskiddy site for incineration for the past 14 years.

Chairperson of the alliance, Mary O'Leary says the local community is unanimously opposed to the plans:

“Cork has had dirty industries for 40 years…they're all gone now” she said.

“We're spending 63 million…to develop a park for the people of Cork because Cork actually doesn't have a big park”.

“Dublin has the Phoenix Park – we have Cork Harbour and we're now reclaiming it to do with it what we want”.

“There's a huge groundswell this time because people are so angry – because people are seeing the potential of Cork Harbour now and the potential we have to develop it” she added.
