This months meeting of the local authority heard claims that one Dublin criminal had availed of free legal aid on 108 separate occasions.

Councillor Jim Ryan felt this should not be allowed and asked that the Justice Minister limit the number of times a repeat offender can avail of it.

It costs Irish taxpayers €50 million a year to cover free criminal legal aid which is money Councillor Jim Ryan feels could be better used elsewhere.
