Halawa verdict delayed

A verdict in Ibrahim Halawa’s trial has been delayed for three weeks.

After four years in prison in Cairo, it had been hoped that a verdict in Ibrahim Halawa’s mass trial would be delivered this morning.

However just after 11am, the family got word that the verdict had been delayed for another three weeks as the Judges said they needed more time .

The 21 year old Dubliner has been in prison in Egypt since 2013 after being arrested during political protests.

His mass trial with almost 500 other defendants has been delayed numerous times.

The Egyptian President has previously told the Irish Government he can’t interfere with the trial but Ibrahim could be returned to Ireland once a verdict is delivered.

Following the adjournment, Ibrahim’s family say they are heartbroken, devastated and too upset to talk.

While the Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney tweeted that it’s frustrating news .
