Internal auditors in the Gardai have raised concern about senior management keeping them in the dark two major scandals.

The internal Audit Committee for the Gardai says it was very concerned that senior garda management did not tell them about the existence of thousands of fake breath tests and unreliable fixed notice convictions.

The committee, which oversees spending, said it was kept in the dark over both issues despite senior management knowing about them about it for up to a year and claim management delayed the publication of their annual report.

The committees report states it was unable to publish the 2016 report by its March 2017 deadline due to two high-profile announcements by Garda management.

Its also been revealed that nearly 14,000 drivers could have convictions quashed because they were wrongly served with a court summons when they had already paid a fixed charge notice.

The Public Accounts Committee is calling for answers from the Garda Commissioner Norin O Sullivan as to why the auditors were not informed.
