Councillors continue to push for safety improvements at Nenagh junction.

Councillors had called for immediate action to tackle what they claim is an accident blackspot but have been told there is no significant accident history at the location near the ABP plant.

However local representatives insist it remains a very dangerous spot.

The safety officer with the National Roads Authority was called into carry out an inspection of a stretch of the N52 Borrisokane to Nenagh road just outside the town following a serious collision in recent weeks and a number of near misses at the Puckane Junction.

Councillors were calling for a roundabout to be put in place, a change of signage and the removal of cars parked on either side of the road near the ABP meat plant.

Following a safety analysis – there was some issue with some signage blocking drivers views exiting the Puckane Junction – something the local authority says it will address – but the inspector was happy with the sight line on the road itself.

Councillors were also informed that garda reports show no significant accident history at the spot that would require a major alteration to the traffic layout and the installation of a roundabout was ruled out.

Local councillors remain insistent that significant measures are needed to address safety issue at the junction but were told that there simply isn't an endless budget to deal with something not deemed to be a major problem
