Council defend action on Templemore Town Park

The head of the Templemore-Thurles district says the council didn't have time to consult with the community before starting work in Templemore Town Park.

There was severe criticism of the local authority recently when work began on the old outdoor swimming pool in Templemore without the normal public consultation.

Many accused the council of ignoring the people of the town, while some councillors were also critical of how the situation was handled.

However, Director of Services for the district, Matt Shortt says they got approval for the work at the Park on very short notice and they had no choice but to act, or face loosing the money.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fail Councillor John Hogan says cleaning up the old swimming pool in Templemore which has been derelict for years, has been a priority for the local representatives for a long time.
