While significant progress is being made in the Hydro Electric Plant in Silvermines it's claimed other old mining sites in the area are still a cause for concern.
Local Labour TD Alan Kelly says the Government has been dragging its feet on the issue.
He wants compulsory purchase orders to be placed on all former mining land in the Silvermines area.
Locals fear that some of this land could pose a hazard for both humans and animals.
A CPO has been in place for Gortmore since 2013 however it appears very little progress has been made.
Deputy Kelly is hoping to meet with the Minister for Natural Resources Sean Kyne in the coming weeks to discuss the matter – he has asked that the Council and local residents attend the meeting.
