Compromise reached on Carrick on Suir bus route

The National Transport Authority has agreed to provide a pilot shuttle service from the South Tipp town to Grangemockler to link up with the bus service to Cork and Dublin.

Bus Éireann is to reduce its Route 7 service bypassing Kilsheelan and Carrick on Suir – the plans were strongly opposed by local representatives who said it would have a devastating impact on the town.

Following a deputation to the NTA and Bus Éireann, the shuttle service was proposed and has been warmly welcomed by councillors in the municipal district.

Independent Councillor Kieran Bourke says its great news because the National Transport Authority had not seemed reluctant to give in to calls for retention of the service.

Sinn Fein's David Dunne says it proves that a local community working together can make a difference – he says the shuttle service is an acceptable alternative which in particular will allow people using the Camphill service to continue accessing the facility.
