The former First Lady has been chosen by the Democratic Party to go up against Republican Donald Trump in November's election.
Hillary Clinton's husband Bill Clinton became the first male spouse in American politics to speak at a presidential convention ahead of a woman's nominee for president.
He started by talking about their early days when they first met, as they became parents and the support and advice Hillary gave to him as he advanced his own career in politics.
He spoke about her commitment to healthcare, childhood education for poor parents and how she tried to empower people with disabilities – a clear reference to Republican nominee Donald Trump who made fun of a reporter with a speech impediment.
He also referred to her experience building a settlement with Hamas and Israel in 2012, and prioritising climate change as well as voting against as well as for some trade deals.
Their daughter Chelsea Clinton and President Barack Obama are the headline speakers tonight.
