The charity says that it is well on the way to reaching its target for this year's fundraiser of €3.4 million.

The Irish Cancer Society had hoped that following last year's weather washout on the day it held its annual fundraiser this year would prove to be more successful.

The charity says that it is still receiving donations from around the country – it's urging those who have not yet lodged money raised to do so as soon as possible.

The Society has also revealed that from last year's €3 million raised during Daffodil Day, €159,173 was raised in the Premier County.

126 calls were made from the county to the National Cancer Helpline while 357 nights of care were provided to Tipperary in 2013.

The charity also says that over €62,000 worth of financial aid was provided to people in Tipperary last year.
