Local business owner says lack of footfall has decimated Clonmel shopping precinct

A long established Tipperary bookshop owner has decided to call it a day.

Rosie Donovan has been running the Bookmarket at Market Place in Clonmel since 2006.

Over the years the site has seen a major downturn in trade with premises closing and now boarded up.

Anti-social behaviour has become a major issue.

Speaking on Tipp Today earlier Rosie said she had reached retirement age and would be closing by the end of the year.

She told Fran Curry that the closure of some key traders has had a huge impact on footfall.

“Well its been very difficult because when I first moved there in 2006 it was very vibrant – Superquinn was a great business there and attracted a lot of people. There were lots of shops around so there were people passing the door every day. So as all the businesses started closing that kind of footfall went down drastically.”
