It’s been confirmed that Heatons in Thurles is set to close.
Speculation had been rife, despite talk in recent years of expansion.
This news is expected to further devastate Liberty Square and the centre of Thurles, as up to 10 jobs will be lost due to the closure.
Local Cllr David Doran says it’s the latest in a list of businesses shutting down, or moving out of the centre of the town – and has cited both parking charges and commercial rates as possible contributing factors.
He’s also suggested it’s important that while the Square is being done up, parking charges should be suspended to ensure people are incentivised to come into the town.
