Some of the ideas up for discussion have faced opposition from community and environmental groups along the river including many in North Tipperary.
Bord na Mona is backing one of the four options – to create a reservoir on the Laois-Offaly border using water from Lough Derg.
The other options include a direct supply from Lough Derg, taking water from the Parteen Basin and desalination.
