The controversial lifetime ban has been lifted and they're now allowed to donate 12 months after their last sexual encounter.
A similar change in the law is expected to come into force in the Republic in the coming months.
Gavin Boyd from the Rainbow Project has welcomed the development, but says there is still a way to go.
