A father-of-three who served in the defence forces has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman discovered in a bog near her home.
Jimmy Devaney, with an address at Millbrook, Monksland, Athlone, was 62 when he was arrested for the killing in 2011, Ms Greene 37 when she was killed.
Marie Greene went missing after leaving the family home on St Mel s Terrace at around 9pm on Sunday, February 13 of that year.
Her body was found in bogland on the Mullingar road on the outskirts of Athlone on the 22nd of Feb.
Opening statements will be heard by the jury this afternoon and the trial of the Mr Devaney is expected to last two weeks.
