There are more than 500 families from the Thurles Municipal District currently waiting on houses.
At this week’s district meeting, councillors were told that there are 875 families on the housing waiting list. This figure includes the 40% of people who are in receipt of rent supplement and are currently housed.
Speaking at this week’s meeting, Councillor Noel Coonan said this number is reflective of a severe housing shortage in the area.
