Close to 100 Tipperary towns and villages are to get access to fibre-powered broadband.
Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte has announced a new fibre-based connection that will allow homes and businesses to connect to faster and more secure broadband.
Some of the 79 Tipperary areas to be included are Terryglass, Upperchurch, Puckane and Rosegreen.
North Tipp Junior Labour Minister Alan Kelly says that it's a significant development for rural parts of the county.
Minister Kelly says: “This is great news for homes, schools, businesses and community facilities in Tipperary and it heralds a new era of faster telecommunications for rural Ireland.
“It represents a major investment in our county's broadband infrastructure, and make no mistake – it has happened because the Government has recognised the need to respond to growing consumer and business demand in these locations.
