Tipperary people heading to the Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick can expect lengthy delays today.

According to latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation there are 54 patients waiting for a bed at the Dooradoyle hospital, making it the most overcrowded in the country.

40 of these are on trolleys around the ED while 14 are being cared for in already full wards.

The situation is better at South Tipp General – however there are still 18 patients without a bed at the Clonmel hospital.

Nationally the figure stands at 543.
