€50 million upgrade of Cahir plant will have billion euro local return.

The new 50 million euro expansion of the plant which has resulted in the creation of 152 jobs is being officially opened this lunchtime.

Welcoming this major expansion of operations at the Cahir ABP facilities local TD and Junior Agriculture Minister Tom Hayes believes it’s of major benefit to the local economy.

The revamp includes an extension and upgrade of the company's current food processing facilities as well as the introduction of a new state of the art gel bone production plant.

Cahir Meats has been in South Tipp since the early 70 during which time a hundred million has been invested in developing the site with job creation going from 43 to 615 today.

Earlier this year ABP secured the first contract to export beef to America since the lifting of a 17 year ban late last year- and Seamus Banim believes this major revamp of Cahir over the past two years will ensure the plant plays a key role in this

ABP Cahir is the largest employer in the region – with over 600 staff members on site – but it also supports a further 13 hundred jobs in the wider economy.

And Seamus Banim says a report conducted by Oxford Economics and KPMG shows the South Tipp Plant will be a major economic drive
