€14 million worth of tobacco has been seized at Drogheda Port.

The operation by Gardai and Revenue officials targeted an organised crime network led by Irish and UK nationals in Europe.

Follow-up searches are underway both in Ireland and across the continent.

The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan has congratulated Revenue and the Gardai on the operation saying it represents a significant potential loss to the Exchequer and is a significant blow to the criminals involved in this illicit trade.
