Michael Martin of Shandon Court, Yellow Road in Waterford City was jailed for 13 years today for trying to snatch the girl near her home last March.
She managed to get away from the convicted sex offender after her younger brother clung on to his jeep as he tried to drive off.
The children then helped catch him after giving Gardai a detailed description of the jeep, including part of the registration number.
Garda Anne Marie Deegan says they deserve high-praise for their swift action.
