Tipperary has one of the lowest employment growth rates in the country.

Figures from the census have also shown that the labour force has declined in the Premier County between 2011 and 2016 – one of only six counties where this occurred.

Employment growth in Tipperary was the 3rd lowest in the country between 2011 and 2016.

The Premier county recorded an increase of 5.2% which is less than half the national average of 11%, according to census figures.

The total number of people ‘at work’ in the county went from 60,332 to 63,472 over the five years.

Tipperary’s labour force declined by 1.3% during this period – one of only six counties where this happened, with all the others located in the West of Ireland.

Sligo has the lowest employment growth rate of any county nationwide – followed by Mayo and Tipperary.
