Social welfare appeal delays criticised by Tipperary Councillor.

The scale of delays in the processing of social welfare appeals is shocking and causing real hardship for recipients.

That's the message from South Tipperary Independent Councillor Richie Molloy.

He said in some cases it's taking up to twelve months for an oral appeal to be heard.

Councillor Molloy said there's a growing concern amongst carers that the Government may be deliberately delaying appeals in a cynical attempt to cut costs.

If this is indeed the case, he said, it amounts to the utmost cruelty.
