North Tipp motorway service area plans rejected.

The proposals were for an off-line motorway service area at Tullaheady to the south west of the town.

The plans consisted of a 100 square metre convenience shop, a food court with a deli/coffee area and a café/restaurant with a drive through facility together with seating areas.

The forecourt section of the development planned to include 6 fuel pumps for cars and a 3 pump island for heavy goods vehicles as well as electric car charging points and a car wash facility.

A large parking section was also proposed to cater for 91 cars, 13 HGV's, 4 coaches and 5 motorcycles.

Having considered the application from Topaz Energy Ltd, Tipperary County Councils planning department has decided to refuse permission citing traffic hazards and the potential for noise pollution among the reasons.

The proposal was also deemed to contravene the North Tipperary County Development Plan and had not been supported by a Retail Impact Assessment.

It remains to be seen if Topaz appeals the refusal to An Bord Pleanala.
