Concerns over lack of information on Shannon extraction plans

Irish Water has identified the Parteen Basin on the River Shannon as it preferred option for a new supply of drinking water for Dublin and the Midlands – it's proposing the construction of a 165 kilometre pipeline from a reservoir on the Tipperary side, to the south of Lough Derg.

Irish Water says the preferred option will have the least environmental impact of the four it examined and is close to the Ardnacrusha hydro-electric power station.

But Nenagh Fianna Fail Councillor John Carroll is concerned that a narrowing of the route options, which is due to be decided in the Spring isn't known among local landowners that may be affected.
