It says Smart Resolutions Mediation Limited is not authorised by the Central Bank and that to provide financial services without authorisation is a criminal offence.
Run by Thomas – better known as Gerry Quigley and his wife Geraldine – Smart Resolutions Mediation Ltd, originally established in Clonmel, is based on Canopy Street in Cashel.
Tipp FM understands that for a fee – they act as a mediator between the banks and distressed mortgage holders in trying to resolve the huge financial difficulties they face.
According to clients, they pay an initial 250 euro fee and then a set amount every month until the matter has been resolved and the company has been successful in having the mortgage reduced or cleared.
In a statement today – The Central Bank says Smart Resolution Mediations Limited is not authorised by the bank to do this – as it’s not an authorised as a debt management firm.
It points out to operate in this regard is a criminal offence and that the Central Bank can only provide protection to customers that are with a financial institution authorised by the overarching financial regulating body.
