More resources need to be in place urgently to clear the backlog of people waiting for decisons on medical card applications.
That's the message from Independent Deputy Mattie McGrath.
He said the delay occurs where a person with a medical condition is found to be slightly over the income guidelines.
The application is then referred to a Medical officer for a decision based on the medical circumstances of the patient, however,he said , it is currently taking well over a month for such decisions to be made .
The Tipperary TD said sick people should be a priority in the Medical Card Office and not left for months wating.
He wants the Minister and the HSE to put more resources into the Medical Office of the Primary Care Reimbursement services to help patients who find themselves in this situation.
