Irish Cancer Society insists plain cigarette packaging will work.

It's claimed smokers are more likely to dislike the taste of cigarettes if they're presented in plain packaging.

That's according to the Irish Cancer Society, which says new rules on plain packaging will help to defeat cancer.

The issue is being discussed at the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children today.

The government is planning new laws to introduce mandatory plain packaging in Ireland, and is pushing for similar laws at EU level.
