House in North Tipperary sold for over two million euro

A  house in Tipperary  has been sold for over two million euro.
The home of the late American billionaire John Paul Getty III, Gurthalougha House in North  Tipperary, has been sold to an international buyer with Irish connections.

It is understood the house, just outside the village of Ballinderry, was sold through agent Knight Frank for a sum close to the latest asking price of €2.45 million. Getty and his mother put the house on the market in 2010 for €5.2 million.

He lived,  on and off on the 100-acre lakefront estate overlooking Lough Derg with his mother, Gail Harris Getty, until his death in February last year.

He was heir to one of the world’s great fortunes.

The house was first bought by the Getty oil dynasty in 1998 and the recent sale was closed by the family trust at the end of September.

The new owner is expected to carry out some refurbishment.
