Planning permission sought for modular unit at South Tipp General

The long awaited extension to South Tipp General Hospital has been given a boost today with planning permission being sought from the County Council.

The plans will see the construction of a two storey extension to provide a much needed boost in inpatient beds at the hospital.

The new two storey extension at the rear of South Tipp General Hospital will cost over six million euro and will create a new forty bed inpatient unit at the facility.

Serving the catchment area of South Tipperary, the hospital provides acute general and maternity services, this new build is expected to alleviate the trolley count in the region.

The new unit will be accessible through the existing structure by a single storey link corridor which is subject to separate planning permission.

The modular build will also contain associated plant rooms at ground roof levels.
