Gasproject hits Nenagh traders’ revenue

Ervia began their dig, which is incorporating gas, water and sewerage, on the lower part of Kenyon Street on Monday…the project means a section of the street is closed from the Railway Roundabout to the Stafford Street junction.

Owner of Country Choice in Nenagh, Peter Ward says the first week of work has had a significant impact on his business.

The contractor moved into the centre of the North Tipp town last Monday morning….beginning at the bottom of Kenyon Street.

The work, which includes laying gas pips, water lines and replacing the waste-water infrastructure is going on from 6am Mondays to Fridays for the next number of weeks.

The project is split into sections, the first up is from the Railway Roundabout to the Stafford Street junction…once that's completed next month, the work will move up along Kenyon Street and onto Pierce Street.

Nenagh Chamber President Denis Finnerty says businesses are worried that jobs will be lost if the downturn in revenue continues

Signage marking alternative routes along with 'Business as Usual' notices are evident throughout the North Tipp town….and while traffic delays are evident in the town centre, the flow seems to be working.

The railway carpark has been made free of charge for the duration of the construction….but Denis Finnerty says it's vital that people don't think that the town is closed.
