Gardai Step Up Christmas Checkpoints

The number of checkpoints are being increased as part of the Christmas road safety enforcement campaign.

12 people have lost their lives on Tipperary roads so far this year, with the latest victim killed on Christmas eve after a collision on the motorway near Cashel.

The high level of fatalities is more than double the numbers who died last year.

Sergeant Mick Dempsey, head of the Traffic Corp in Thurles says there will also be super checkpoints on motorways around the country, two of which run through the county.
