Plans to increase number of languages in schools

Chinese, Polish, Lithuanian and Portuguese are to be added to the curriculum – under ambitious new plans to bolster language learning.

The ten year strategy aims to increase the numbers studying foreign languages – with an eye beyond the Western world and being mindful of the impact of Brexit.

There’s also a huge need for language graduates in the jobs market.

We currently languish at the bottom of the EU table for learning languages along with the UK, Portugal and Greece.
