Dramatic drop in waiting lists at Nenagh General.

Waiting lists for outpatients have halved at Nenagh General Hospital last year.

The Health Service Executive has released figures which show a 50% reduction between March and December of 2013.

Inpatient lists have also fallen dramatically during that time.

It's the first time that outpatient waiting lists have been compiled for Nenagh General.

Waiting times for inpatient treatment dropped by 40%…going from 944 in 2011 to 387 at the end of 2013.

The reduction is being put down to a number of measures…including an advance notification to patients of upcoming appointment dates and the utilisation of an electronic referral system.

North Tipp Fine Gael TD Noel Coonan welcomed the figures but acknowledged further work was needed to improve the stats.
