President Michael D Higgins will be in the Premier County today to open the Community Amphitheatre in Cloughjordan.
The venue, built into a mound at the northern end of Ireland’s first ecovillage, incorporates a commemorative inscription in honour of Cloughjordan’s Thomas MacDonagh, who was one of the signatories of the 1916 Proclamation.
Organisers of today’s event are expecting a large turn-out and are advising people to be at the venue by 3.30pm.
Professor Peadar Kirby, chair of Sustainable Projects Ireland, says they hope to make the amphitheatre a major regional artistic venue.
