The former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has warned parts of the Good Friday Agreement may have to be rewritten to take account of Brexit.

Mr Blair also says that Northern Ireland should be considered as a special case in the exit talks.

Meanwhile Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan says Brexit is a proper mess that need to be cleaned up.

Tony Blair was a surprise choice of guest to address the gathering of EPP MEPs in Wicklow, giving his Labour background.

Behind closed doors he told them that some of the language in the GFA will have to be amended as when written it was on the basis of Ireland, North and South and the UK being in the EU.

And speaking after the meeting he says the agreement must not be impaired by Brexit and a special deal must be done for the North.

Last night the Foreign Affairs Minister told the BBC that Brexit was “a proper mess”.

Meanwhile this afternoon the EU’s Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier is visiting the border area to see first hand the possible impacts of Brexit.
