Managment at STGH has plan in place to address hygiene issues

Management at STGH note that the unannounced HIQA report from 10th July records evidence of compliance to many of its guidelines, describes the Intensive Care Unit and other clinical areas overall as clean and found that STGH staff displayed a strong awareness of required infection prevention and control standards.

Management says hygiene is a key priority and a plan, agreed with HIQA, is already being implemented to address areas that require improvement and that there is a determination among all levels of staff to fully comply with standards set for the hospital.

The hospital has cited hand hygiene as the single most effective measure that healthcare workers, patients and the public can undertake to prevent healthcare associated infection
