Irish citizen among injured after Nice attack

84 people, including at least 10 children have been confirmed dead after a truck mowed through crowds celebrating Bastille Day along the seafront.

As thousands of people, many families with young children, were out watching the firework display to mark Bastille Day, a large truck zig zagged down the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice.

Onlookers describe how the truck travelled for more than a mile, before the driver got out and started shooting before he was killed by police.

It's been confirmed the driver was a 31 year old French – Tunisian with no apparent links to terrorism.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has confirmed that an Irish man is among those critically injured…no further details on any other Irish citizens have been released.

French Ambassador to Ireland Jean Pierre Thébault says there is no possible justification for what happened in Nice last night, while French President Francois Hollande says there's no denying the Nice attack was an act of terrorism.

Mr Hollande has arrived in Nice this afternoon, along with the Prime Minister…they are meeting with police officials.

Addressing the nation earlier, he promised to bolster security.
