The company behind the proposed development near Cahir is inviting local residents to a community information meeting later today to find out more.
Lightsource Renewable Energy intend to employ local service providers and contractors where possible.
Plans for the 20 MegaWatt solar farm at Monaraha, east of Cahir, are still at an early stage….Lightsource Renewable Energy say they are keen to speak to local residents to help shape the final proposals before they are submitted to the council for consideration.
If approved by Tipperary County Council, the solar farm would provide enough renewable energy to power 5,300 homes.
The proposed site is adjacent to a concrete works and former quarry to the south of the Cahir – Clonmel road just a few kilometres from the town
The solar panels at Monaraha would reach a maximum height of 2.5 metres and according to Lightsource would not be visible from the town of Cahir or nearby roads.
Should the solar farm get the green light from the planning authority installation would take about three to four months following which tt would be connected to the national grid via the sub-station adjacent to the proposed site.
Lightsource would be looking to utilise local contractors and service providers wherever possible, including security personnel, fencing experts and landscapers specialising in local/native species.
The company is inviting local residents to a community information evening on Wednesday next at Cahir House Hotel, from 5.30 until 8pm.
