Fáilte Ireland to open Nenagh tourist office

It was revealed last week that the tourism body had citied “ever tightening operational budgets” as the reason not to operate the office for the eleven week period in the North Tipp town.

Tipperary County Council, along with public representatives were highly critical of the decision, which they described as “unsatisfactory and unacceptable”.

However, Acting Environment Minister and Tipperary TD Alan Kelly says that following intervention, Fáilte Ireland has committed to opening Nenagh Tourist Office for eleven weeks.

District Director of the Nenagh Municipal Distract, Marcus O'Connor says it's great news.

In a statement, Tipperary County Council say it welcomes the announcement.

“The importance of having an appropriately staffed Tourist Office in Nenagh, particularly at the height of the summer season, is recognised by the Council.

Nenagh is strategically located in close proximity to Limerick, Shannon Airport and Lough Derg.  It has many attractions and facilities including Nenagh Castle, the Heritage & Genealogy Centre, the Town Park and Leisure Centre and Nenagh Arts Centre.

Information will also be provided on the attractions of the other Towns and Villages in the area.

The Tourist Office will be located at the former Motor Tax Office in Banba Square.  Opening dates and times will be confirmed in due course.”
