The man and woman – both in their 30s – were searched after arriving on a flight from Istanbul.
The cigarettes – branded Marlboro Gold – are worth more than 14,500 euro and represent a loss to the exchequer of almost 12 thousand euro.
They appeared in court earlier this morning and were remanded in custody to appear in court again next Monday.
