Council hits back at criticism over Nama housing rejection

At present there are over 3,000 on the local authority housing list.

The council has come in for criticism after it emerged that the vast majority of the 161 properties were turned down.

However the local authority pointed out that this figure is over a three year period, that some of the properties were in areas of low demand, others were suitable as it would place just social housing applicants in a single estate which is against both their policy and that of the department.

A spokesperson added that some of the properties themselves just weren't suitable and denied that the councillors had no knowledge the local authority had been offered housing units from Nama as they are regularly given a broad housing briefing updating them on the council's social housing efforts.
