Case against Corbett’s pub put forward for full hearing

A case against former Tipp hurler Lar Corbett's company for allegedly not paying tax on alcohol at his bar in Thurles has been put forward for a full hearing.

Mr Corbett, who owns Coppinger's bar in Parnell Street, Thurles did not appear in court this morning.

Marlstone Investments Ltd, of which Lar Corbett is a director, is charged with having 16.1 litres of alcohol for sale or delivery on which alcohol tax had not been paid on the 29th January 2015 at Coppinger's Public House.

At Thurles District Court today, Brian Hughes, representing Marlstone Investments said he had received 'varied instructions' from Mr Corbett, and indications that a plea was to be entered had now changed.

At a previous sitting in May, it was understood that a guilty plea would be entered in response to the charge…Mr Hughes told the court that was not the case today.

State solicitor Michelle O'Connell said she was concerned that Mr Corbett had not been present at any of the previous court appearances…he was not in court today.

Judge Elizabeth McGrath marked the case premtery against Marlstone Investments and set a date for a full hearing of the 20th September.
